Troop, autumn is here, so ensure you are prepared to stay in tip-top shape.

SLF Bootcamp:

  • Wear loose layers to stay warm. You can then start to take off some layers as you warm up. Trust me, you will warm up! “It’s only cold if you stand still.”
  • A lightweight, breathable waterproof jacket can serve you well to keep you dry.
  • A lightweight, waterproof pair of gloves and a warm hat.

Troop Trail Conditioning:

  • A head torch or body torch is a must – I recommend a rechargeable and waterproof one. MCT Fitness can provide you with one for your first session to try it out.
  • A lightweight, breathable waterproof jacket can serve you well to keep you dry.
  • A lightweight, perhaps waterproof pair of gloves and a warm hat.

  1. Data suggests that outdoor fitness/exercise can help you stick with regular physical activity because of the feel-good factor. The oxygen boost you get from the fresh air gets the serotonin flowing. 
  2. It can help reduce depression and anxiety. Exercise, in general, is a known depression alleviating practice. During exercise, your body releases endorphins, which are the body’s natural feel-good hormones that also help relieve pain. Studies show that people who exercise are less likely to experience depression than inactive people. When it comes to outdoor exercise/fitness vs indoor exercise/fitness, some evidence shows that being outdoors has a further optimising effect on depression relief than being indoors.
  3. It gets you actually to spend time outdoors. Most people spend the majority of their day indoors and or behind a desk. You can feel more empowered by exercising outdoors and spending a small amount of your time in the fresh air than by spending even more time indoors.
